Make Money By Selling Your Kids Last Year's Halloween Costumes on eBay

Halloween Costumes can be real expensive if you buy them brand new and at the store (especially Disney costumes). One of the places that people look for costumes and their accessories is on eBay. You can list any costume that is in good condition on eBay to sell and make a profit. I do this every year and make a profit, except this year I gave my daughters last years costume to a child that was in need of one. This is a way to make some of the money you spend in the current year on costumes back. Last year I made enough to pay for the current years costume plus a profit of $5.

Here is a Disney Cinderella Costume that was started on a bid of $0.99 and the ending bid was $16.13.

Here is a Disney Toy Story Buzz Lightyear Costume that was started on a bid of $4.99 and ended the bid at $56.00.

When listing your costumes be sure to leave a good description of the condition and clear picture of the item. The buyer will want to know if it has any tears or flaws before they place a bid on your item. A minor flaw will not keep all buyers away. Another tip, let your buyers know if it comes from a pet free or smoke free home. A lot of buyers have allergies and will buy from a person that is making that promise faster than someone that says nothing about it. The more info you tell your buyers about the item the better.

When you list an item, it is important to know what price to list the item at. Terapeak is a site that offers a FREE service to eBay sellers that gives you a look at the average selling price and listing strategies for the item. You will want to not list your item any higher than the average selling price to ensure a chance of getting a buyer for your item. There is also a function to help you build the title for your listing.

All costumes will not bring a profit, but if you use Terapeak to check for the average selling price you will set yourself on the right road.

Are You an Auctiva User?

If you sell on eBay it is likely that you have heard of Auctiva. It is an eBay auction management tool, that until June, let you use their templates, traffic monitor, and listing tool for free. Now they have announced that due to eBay's new policies they are going to have to start charging for their services. Unfortunately, their new fee chart is hard to understand and that sent me on the search for a new service to list my eBay items through. After seeing several listings on eBay I decided to give Seller Source Book a try. I just signed up today and I am already impressed at how many cool looking templates they have. I also set up my seller profiles already and found that it was not hard to do. I am a newbie to their service but find that even listing an item is easy. Seller Sourcebook offers a clear pricing guide for the services. It can also be used to sell on other sites other than eBay.

As an eBay seller, it is important to make your listings stand out from the rest of the pack. A well groomed listing can attract more interested buyers. A template that matches the personality of the product you are selling can make the product seem unique and special.

I thought I would share my two cents on this with all of you. Do you use Auctiva or Seller Source Book? If so leave a comment and share your views.

Online Selling Tips: Newsletters are an Important Selling Tool

Newsletters are a great tool for you to get the word out to your store viewers. This is a way that you can broadcast any new items or discounts that you have available.

When making a newsletter make sure that it is not too lengthy (viewers want something easy to scan through) and the main point is at the top of the newsletter.

If you have an eBay store, you have an option to create newsletters and track them. If you don’t have a store, make yourself a blog and talk about your items that you have available with links to their eBay pages. Your followers can simply follow your blog or subscribe to it and they will get an email of all of your new post. Although, this is not a newsletter, it will act as one to your viewers.

How do you get people to subscribe to your newsletter? You have to get out and promote your stores link. Go to forums, yahoo groups, blogs, and anywhere else you can think of that will allow you to talk briefly about your store and post a link. DO NOT spam anywhere or anyone about your store, this is a way to drive interest away from your store and not to your store. Also, get involved in eBay message boards and people may check out your store if they like a comment that you make and subscribe to your newsletter.

Think of your newsletter as your ad in a newspaper. Now, go out and start sending newsletters to drive attention to your store or items that you have for sale.

Good Luck!

Online Selling Tip: Do You Use Twitter to Promote Your Site or Product?

Twitter is becoming more of a promotional tool everyday. You can attract a large audience in a matter of seconds. The key to doing so is to have the proper following (audience). The first step to getting the right following is to create a profile on Twitter that will attract people that would be interested in your tweets (updates) by going under “settings“. Start by giving yourself a profile picture. You can either use a personal picture or a graphic that goes with your theme. Once you complete this, choose your profile background by clicking on the “design” tab in your profile.

On the “account” tab you can enter your homepage address, place your website, blog, or eBay store address here. Next you will see a space to give yourself a “one line bio”, Doing this you need to give a brief summary of what you are promoting. This will act as key words in the search function when people are searching for people to follow. After you have completed this step go to find people and search for people that would be interested in what you will be tweeting by choosing the “Find People” tab at the top of the page and then choosing “Search on Twitter” tab. There you will want to enter keywords to find people that match your search. For instance, If you are going to be promoting your blog that you are writing about parenting, you will want to search for words like mom, parenting, children, or kids. If you are selling collectables like beanie babies you will want to use the keyword beanie babies to find people who like them.

Ok now that you have set up your profile and started following others, start tweeting your updates on your sites and tweeting with others on their updates. On top of having a great profile and following others you will need to create a relationship with others on Twitter so that they will follow your updates that you post. No one will follow a one sided tweeter. One way to boost your following is to post a Twitter badge on your blog or personal website (eBay won’t allow this badge on about me page or store page). Your site followers will most likely choose to follow you for updates. You can also put a widget on your site that shows your tweet updates. You can find these badges and widgets by checking out the “Apps” option at the bottom of the page on Twitter or you can create a custom badge on one of the sites below.

Remember, with anything on the internet, it takes time to establish yourself on Twitter, so don’t get discouraged and walk away, continue tweeting and one day you will start getting traffic and sales because of the relationships that you build with others on Twitter.

Online Selling Tip: Now I have listed my Item, What now?

The real work to an online auction starts after you have successfully listed your item for sell. To get traffic to your listing can be time consuming but well worth it. Here are some tips on ways to get people looking at your listing.

1. Put your link in your signature in emails and forums (if rules allow signatures).

2. Advertise in free online bulletin boards.

3. Post your link on Twitter.

4. Post the listing info on your wall on Facebook.

5. If you have an eBay store you can sign up for Big Crumbs and link your store to your Big Crumbs account and when someone does a search for an item that you are selling, it will appear in the search results.

6. Post about it on your blog or website.

These are ways that I promote my listings. If you think of any other ways please leave a comment.

Online Selling Tip: Writing Your Item Listing on eBay

Let me first say that I am not an expert at online selling but have learned a few tricks along the way. This post is inspired to a conversation with a friend this morning about listing an item on eBay. She is posting her first listing today and asked me what she should say in her description for her item. She said that she had looked around at listings on eBay and saw that there were some good descriptive listings and some listings that had little to no info on the item. So that got me to thinking...what makes a great listing description?

Make use of all of the preset listing descriptions provided by eBay. What I mean by this is, depending on the product you are listing, when you list an item you will see boxes in your item listing screen that has options for you to choose size of product, style of product, condition of product, and more. The options that you choose in these presets will appear at the top of your listing description in a box and it will also help get you listed in a search that a potential customer will do for an item. Here is an example of what I am talking about. I used a book listing since it has a lot of details listed about the item.

A note about listing books is that when you first go under selling and choose books as the catagory it will ask for the ISBN # on the book and that will automatically list the details.

Start your listing description with the name of the product and quanity if you are selling a "LOT" of a specific item. This will make your listing start off clear on what you are offering and there won't be room for confusion from the buyer. In this description you will want to include quanity, accurate name of product, and size. If it is too long of a description, you can use the subtitle area to lost the size of the product.

When entering info in the description box be clear and well understood. Like I said before I am not an expert by no means but I have learned that an unclear listing will get you no buyers. You should start off by listing the same thing that you listed in the one liner description and then give details about the product, tell what the product does and how it will benefit the buyer will have if they bought the item. Don't overdue the description by making unclear statements. If it is a used item be sure to talk about any scratches or damages that the product has. If you don't do this you will be misrepresenting the product and you will most likely will get a return.

Give a clear Shipping Policy. Don't forget to let the buyer know how you will ship the item, what your ETA of shipping the item will be, let them know if insurance is available, and if combined shipping is an option. Again, remember to be very clear about what details you are trying to convey.

Give a clear Return Policy. Let your buyers know what your return terms will be for damaged items, shipping problems, who will pay for shipping a return, and let them know that shipping insurance is nonrefundable.

Potential Hot Seller on eBay

I found this at Dollar Tree and saw the Banana Boat Summer Colors Instant Bronzer & Sunless Tanning Foam Light/Medium and thought that I would try it out on eBay and to my surprise it sold quickly. I sold these 4 bottles of it for $14, that is a $10 profit from the sale. Check out these completed listings to see more that have sold.

Check your local dollar stores for this item. You will make your money back and a profit too.

A tip of selling on Ebay

Ebay has a really neat area, "Want It Now", where people can list items that they are looking to buy. This is a great way to get a built in buyer for your listing. Once you find an item that is listed, go ahead and post the item to sell and then return to "Want It Now" and list the item number for the listing under the post that the interested buyer posted.

Are Your Pictures Clear on Your Listing?

One thing that can kill a listing fast is bad pictures of the item. A picture of a listing needs to show the item in detail. What I mean by that is the buyer should be able to look at the picture and see exactly what they are buying without extra distractions or blurriness getting in the way. Think about it, If you are looking at an item that has 2 listings where one listing has a crystal clear picture and the other has a picture that you can't tell what it is, which one are you going to be interested in. I know when I started out selling my camera was not good at all and I never could get a great picture of what I was trying to sell and quickly caught on that if I wanted to get more views I needed to improve my pictures. Now I'm not saying that you need to have a professional picture, I am saying that the picture needs to be in focus, color needs to appear correct in the picture, and well cropped. Here are some examples of a bad picture and a good picture.

Example of a bad picture. It is too blurry and you can't tell what it is.

Example of a good picture. You can see the product that I am selling and see the wording on the bottle. With this listing I would also do a close up shot of the lower part of the bottle where the description is.

Places To Sell Online

Selling online is a great way to make extra money for your family. I thought I would start off the day with listing places that you can sell on. It is important to sell in a site that fits your needs best.

eBay: This is the most popular site to sell on. Traffic to your listings comes easier with eBay and it has an easy insertion form for selling. As a seller you can have individual listings (No subscription needed) or you can have an eBay store (Subscription needed). You can either choose to have buyers bid on your items or "Buy It Now" with a fixed price. For a beginning seller online eBay is in my opinion the best to get started on because it is easy to set up a listing, traffic is greater on eBay than other sites, and they have a great help section that will help a beginner get the most out of their listings.

Amazon: This is another high traffic site that offers a selling feature. I found that if you sell books online, this is the best place to do it. Sellers have found that they can get more for books with the audience that Amazon receives. The only downside is that you have to pay a monthly fee to be a seller with them, so that means that in order for you to make a profit you will have to sell more than the monthly fee every month.

Craigslist: This is a site that is great to sell bulky items that are not easily shipped. You can post an ad for free to attract local intrest. The only downside to this site is that you directly communicate through your own email address and you have to meet face to face to complete the sale. You will definately have to think of your security when completing a sale on Craigslist.

Half.com: This site is ran by eBay. This site is limited to items in the following catagories: Books, Movies, Music, Game Systems, and Video Games. There are no listing fees and listing an item is easy because you enter the UPC or ISBN and all of the info is provided from their database on the item. Traffic is pretty good for this site.

Etsy: This is a place where you can sell your handmade goods. The traffic it gets is from destination buyers that are seeking for handmade goods. The form to list an item is moderately easy. It cost 20cents to list an item and when it sells you will pay a small transaction fee of 3.5%.

Cafe Press: This is a site where you can sell your custom t-shirts, hats, mugs, and more. You can open a basic shop for free and list up to 80 items. This site seems to get a lot of traffic.

These are the sites that I know that are trustworthy to sell on. If you know of anymore please leave a comment and I will check them out.

Some Tips On Being An Ebay Seller

Ebay is a great resource to bring extra cash into your life. With the economy in the shape it is in, having a side income is becoming more and more important. I personally have dabbled in Ebay and now I have decided to amp up my Ebay efforts. I have learned a few tips in my efforts and thought I would share them with you so that you can use them to better your Ebay efforts.

Tip #1: Have a PayPal account. It is the easiest no hassle way to get paid for all of your items you are selling.

Tip #2: Have a camera that will give you decent pictures that you post in your description of the items. Bad pictures or no pictures will hinder you from getting interested buyers. I just received my new digital camera in the mail the other day and I immediately listed a few items and see that I have been getting some hits on my items. The camera that I had before never could get clear pictures and I know my listings suffered because of it. You don't have to spend a lot of money for a camera, just get one that has a good rating and feedback from customers. I got mine off of a store on Ebay and even got free accessories with it for around $60.

Tip #3: Start to look for items that you can sell from inside your own home. If you are like most, you have a storage area full of things that you put away and have forgotten you had and unless they are sentimental, these items can attract buyers on Ebay. These things may have value on Ebay and can help start your selling.

Tip #4: Take advantage of the 10 day free trial at Hammertap. I just recently found this site from reading about it on Ebay Selling Coach. It is a market research tool for sellers on Ebay. What this means is it helps a seller by using their search tools to find specific information about how an item is performing currently on Ebay. What info will you receive when you join? It gives you the average selling price of the item currently, best day to start the auction, best day to end the auction, and links to all of the listings for the item.

Tip #5: Use a site like Auctiva to dress up your listings. It is a free to use site that offers Ebay listing templates to showcase your item that you are selling so that it is appealing to the buyers. It makes each listing look like it's own website. Check out one of my listings to see one of the templates that is available. I also like Auctiva because when you click on active listings under your dashboard it will give you a hit count on your listings so that you know which listings are drawing the most traffic.

Tip #6: Make sure you fill out your "About Me" page. If you don't this may turn buyers away from your items. You don't have to give out personal info just make sure you talk about what to expect from you service wise and product wise. Make sure you make it sound friendly and you can also add your blog or website address. There are some affiliates that you can list on your "About Me" Page such as Big Crumbs, Auction Add Ons, and Seller Sourcebook. These affilliates will be another way to earn.

Tip #7: Check stores like Dollar Tree or Big Lots for items to sell on Ebay. These stores get new stock several times a week. They are stores that have closeouts of merchandise at great prices.
When a popular item closes out it creates a big demand for the product on Ebay. It is important to visit these stores a few times a week to see what new stock they get in that might sell for profit on Ebay. Major name brands are usually the big sellers. I personally have my notepad open on my cell phone and make notes of new stock so that I can check Hammertap to see if it sells or not when I get home. Then if the products are bringing profit from sells then you can go make a purchase and immediately list the item so you can hit the sells of the product while it is hot.

Tip #8: Visit thrift stores and yard sales in your area and see what brand name items you can find. I have heard of sellers getting great deals from their local Goodwill store and making a nice profit from the sell of the item on Ebay. Look for antiques, Remington Blue Hot Rollers, designer clothes, and popular children's books. Nonfiction Authors sell great in lots if you can get a series together.

Tip #9: Make your listing description as thorough as posssible without sounding repetitve. Make sure you tell of any wear or tear of the item. List everything that comes with the item. Make sure that you list your policies for returns, shipping, and payment. That way there is no confusion if problems occur. make sure that everything is clearly stated.

Tip #10: Promote your listings in forums, stumble it, clixsense, or any other advertising method you can think of.

I am in no way an expert on Ebay but wanted to share these tips that I have learned along my way. Ebay can be a good source of extra income if you make an effort to maximize sales. If you have any other tips share them by commenting.

Great Way To Get More Coupons

Coupons are a great tool for a shopper to save money on their bottom line price at the cash register. I started seriously using coupons around 3 years ago and realized that there are so many ways that you can get coupons. The more coupons that you have, the more you can save. Ebay has become a major hub for coupon fanatics to get a chance to build their coupon stash. Check out this link to see what I mean. I usually get around 2 "lots" of 100 coupons a month.
