Couponing 101: Understand How To Read A Coupon

For anyone that has looked at a coupon, the limits and restrictions can be hard to understand. It is important to read each coupon carefully to ensure that it applies to your purchase, Some coupons may signify a certain quantity, specific sizes, specific weight or specific flavor.

What does “Limit of 4 like Coupons in Same Shopping Trip” mean?

This restriction can be found mostly on P&G product coupons. It means that you can use up to 4 of the same coupon in your shopping trip. This is usually highlighted in red ink on the coupon in the terms area. An example of this would be if you wanted to get Dawn Dish Detergent and had 4 coupons for it. You would be able to purchase 4 Dawn Dish Detergents and use 4 coupons at the checkout. If you had 6 coupons, you still could only get 4 items and use 4 coupons.

What does “Limit 1 Coupon per Transaction” mean?

This is telling you that you can only use 1 coupon for that item in one transaction no matter what quantity you purchase. An example would be if you were buy 4 deodorants. You can buy all 4, but can only use 1 coupon at checkout.

What does “Limit 1 Coupon per Purchase” mean?

This means that you are allowed one coupon per item with no limits on quantity. An example would be if you have 10 coupons for $0.55 off (1) Reynold’s Aluminum Foil, you could go to checkout with 10 rolls of foil and use 10 $0.55 coupons.

Look for “No Doubling” or “Can Not Be Doubled” in the terms.

Some stores double coupons to entice customers to buy more. Certain manufacturer coupons will restrict stores from doubling the coupon. It can be found in bold print in the fine print or sometimes in a box next to the expiration date.

There Are Tons Of Money Saving Coupon Inserts In Today's Paper!

Today is a big day in the newspaper for coupons. If you are new to using coupons, take notice that the first Sunday paper of the month is usually the heaviest for inserts. Today there is (1) P&G brandSaver Insert, (1) Pepsico Moments to Save Insert, (2) Smart Source Inserts, (1) Red Plum Insert (some areas receive Red Plum the week before the Sunday Paper with the weekly sales ads in the mail). This is the week to ask your family, friends, and neighbors if they are throwing out their coupon inserts and ask can you have them. You can get email updates from Sunday Coupon Preview to get a look at what to expect weekly in coupons.

If you need more of a coupon you can order them from coupon clipping services like Coupon Dede, Whole Coupon Inserts, and Coupon Carry-Out. This is an affordable way to get your inserts and if the item is a good deal, you will make your money back by saving on the item. You can get whole inserts or individual coupons. All of these ship pretty quickly and the sites are simple to navigate.

What you need to know to maximize your savings at CVS

CVS is one of my favorite stores, most of my savings comes from there on our bath and body products, soda(hubbys addiction lol), diapers, you name it, watch for sales and just about anything can be free there if you have the right coupons. Once you get the hang of CVS it will be one of your favorite stores to shop at.

There are a few things you need to know to maximize your savings at CVS:

CVS Lingo:
Extra Care Card-

CVS's store card that is needed to score the deals. It is FREE to sign up for.

ECB

-Extra care bucks- "money" that you earn from buying certain products that you can use to buy other things at CVS

Money Maker

- When you get back more ECBs then you spent

B1G1 or BOGO

Coupon Policy:

Important things to know about CVS's coupon policy. You can e-mail CVS for their coupon policy, but they do not have it avaliable online.


Buy 1 get 1 free sales:
With a buy 1 get 1 free sale you can use 1 coupon per item

Examples:

Shampoo is on sale B1G1, you have 2 $1 off 1 coupons for the same brand you can use both coupons combined with the sale.




Pads are on sale B1G1 and you have a B1G1 coupon, you can use your B1G1 coupon with the sale to get both items free(just pay sales tax)


There is no limit with how many ECB's you can use, your dollar amount total just needs to be less then the ECB and coupon value amount or they will be adjusted down to the amount you have.




1 CVS coupon and 1 manufacturers coupon per item (ECBS are NOT counted as coupons, they are used the same way as if you were using a CVS gift card)



Use of $x off $x coupons:



When you get a coupon for $4 off $20 CVS coupon, the $20 total is counted BEFORE the use of manufactures and CVS coupons. Only one of this type of coupon can be used in a transaction

Internet Printable coupons:

CVS accepts IP coupons that are printed from authorized websites, copies of coupons will not be accepted

Competetor's coupons:

CVS does not accept competators coupons except for in the pharmacy. If you have a Rite Aid coupon for a free gift card with a new or transfered perscription CVS will honor those.

Overage:

CVS does not allow for overage, if product X is .50 and you have a .55 off 1 coupon the coupon will be adjusted down to .50

Extra Care Card Rules:

Cvs limits the amount of cards to one per person, however they do allow each person in a household to have their own Extra Care Card.
