It's Snowing In Tipton County

It just started snowing here in Tipton County. We hardly ever get any snow that amounts to anything but it is pretty when we do get it.

Moms, What Is On The Top Of Your Christmas Wish List?

With all of the Christmas shopping moms do for everyone else, I though it would be neat to hear what is the top thing that you are asking for this year? I am asking for a Food Saver so that I can buy in bulk and keep it fresh. There are deals on meat that I would like to buy more of but usually don't because I am afraid of it going bad before I can make use of it. Get in on the conversation over at the Mommy's Money Cents Community at The Blog Frog.

Carmex Moisture Plus Tinted Lip Balms Review and Giveaway

Winter time is not a favorite time of the year for me because my skin gets mega dry and my lips tend to want to stay chapped. I have to apply some type of moisturizer several times a day to protect my lips from the dry air. I am lucky to be a member of the Carmex Blog Squad and get the chance to review new products. They recently contacted me and sent two of the new Carmex Moisture Plus Sheer Tint Lip Balms to try out. It comes in Sheer Pink, Sheer Peach, and Clear Stain Gloss Finish. I received the Sheer Pink and Sheer Peach for review.

Features of the Carmex Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Tinted Lip Balm:
  • Has Vitamin E + Aloe Moisturizing Protection
  • Has Sunscreen SPF 15
  • Has a slanted tip for easy application
What do I think about the Carmex Moisture Plus Sheer Tint Lip Balms? I love them. It makes my lips feel refreshed and renewed. Since I started using them I have noticed the dryness reducing. I normally find myself reapplying every 4 to 6 hours. I wear them alone, and then sometimes I apply them under my lipstick and then again on top of my lipstick and find that it makes my color last longer. The balms come in three tints: Sheer Pink, Sheer Peach, and Clear Satin Gloss Finish. Although the color is just a light tint, they are great for everyday wear. I do hope that they come out with new colors, preferably something in the brown or nude family. The tube it comes in is sleek and resembles some lipstick tubes and is compact enough to not take up a lot of space in my purse.
Now how can you get some for yourself? You can enter the giveaway below or you can find them at Walgreens or Walgreens.com. They usually retail for around $2.99 each. Right now you can print a coupon for $0.55 off of one that was in the Smart Source Coupon Insert on 11/7/2010.

Certified Early Childhood Education Makes A Difference

Below is a guest post from Emily Patterson and Kathleen Thomas who are Communications Coordinators for the Atlanta day care facility and a member of the AdvancED® accredited family of Primrose Schools (located in 16 states throughout the U.S.) and part of the network of day care preschools delivering progressive, early childhood, Balanced Learning® curriculum. I thought that this would strike a chord with all of you moms and dads out there.

Certified Early Childhood Education Makes a Difference

If you are fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home parent in America today, you are among the truly lucky. With thirty years of economic policies that have decimated the middle class, the majority of American households today require two incomes, meaning that young children must usually be relegated to daycare facilities or preschools.

Many parents who are privileged enough to stay at home to raise their children naturally wish to take full advantage of this opportunity by attempting to give their children a head start on learning; reading to them, engaging in educational play activities, encouraging them to read, and more. Unfortunately, very few parents can do it all.

This is where young children can greatly benefit from attendance at a certified day care, operated by trained, certified early childhood educators. A preschool teacher cannot replace a parent, but the experience of learning in a school setting during the early years can be a valuable supplement to a child's experience at a time when the brain is being shaped and developed.

There is arguably no substitute for a loving parent-child relationship and daily interactions – but scientific methodology has an important place. This is where trained, certified early childhood educators can "fill the gaps" when it comes to a young child's development. For example, were you as a parent aware that there are five equally important areas of a young child's development? These are summed up by the acronym, "SPICE" – Social, Physical, Intellectual, Creative and Emotional.

Social development involves the way a child relates to others and functions in a group setting. If you are among the increasing number of parents choosing to limit their family size to one child, the importance of socialization in a structured environment becomes apparent.

Physical development refers to building motor skills, from the gross (basic movements such as walking and running) to the fine (such as holding a writing implement).

Intellectual development is achieved through structured play, and of course means development of language and math skills as well as the child's innate sense of curiosity and wonder; Intellectual development is central to success in school later on.

Creative development addresses artistic talents in visual arts, music, storytelling and even theatrics. Although it is popular in American culture to dismiss creativity and the arts as unnecessary, creativity is the foundation self-expression and problem solving. It is arguable that without creativity, there would be no innovation nor entrepreneurship. (It was Einstein himself who said "Creativity is more important than knowledge.")

Emotional development is also frequently overlooked, even by the most devoted parents. Yet, without a sense of self, including self confidence and the discipline to deal with one's own emotional responses, a child will have difficulty functioning in society later in life.

The Professional Advantage

It is likely that most parents are aware of these developmental domains on an instinctive level. However, certified preschool educators are trained in the scientific theory and methodology that can make the difference between a child succeeding – and succeeding brilliantly.
