Do You Meal Plan?

At the end of each month I plan my meals for the following month. That's right, a whole month. This is important since I do only one major grocery shopping trip a month. I use a day planner that has each day broken down individually. I started doing this 2 years ago and can't imagine living without the meal plan. Of course things happen along the way on a night or two, but for the most part we stick to it. After I write my meal plan out. I do a search for ingredients in the pantry and that is how my grocery list comes to life. This method helps me stay on budget and still have enough meals to last until the next month.

So I am throwing this out there to all of you. Do you go by a meal plan or do you just wing it? Also, does that method work for you and your family?

  1. Hi Mary!
    Very cute blog. And useful.
    Thanks for following me.

I love meal planning. It's hard for me to do right now though. I'm staying with my elderly parents while my daughters finish out high school. My husband is deployed, and we are getting ready to retire from the AF.
So, things are hecktic here at my house....and my mother isn't fond of the idea of meal planning. Rawr. LOL

  2. I had that same problem. My grandmother lives with me and it took her some getting used to. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I plan out my meals for the month and then I break them down into 2 shopping trips. I then do the same thing with going through the pantry, fridge, and freezer before making out my list. I do make a few dinners in which I will make 2 batches at a time (1 to eat and 1 to freeze) so I like to make those up in the first 2 weeks. I love knowing what we will be having for dinners on any given day and knowing that I have everything I need to make said dinner on hand.

  5. I'm a SAHM mother of two great boys and I meal plan on a weekly basis. It's how I (try to) budget my grocery shopping. It has been a challange to budget on one income since I had decided to be a SAHM. Do you have any tips on how to be successful with a meal plan that may help.
